Supporting His Passion

Ray Jolliffe was an active member of the Lethbridge theatre community for more than 40 years and his work backstage was instrumental in bringing untold productions to life. As a stage manager Ray was involved with productions for Coaldale Little Theatre, Lethbridge Playgoers, the Southern Showcase with the Lethbridge Symphohy Orchestra, the Jolliffe Academy and Allied Arts Council Christmas Pantomimes, and Lethbridge Musical Theatre.

Ray was willing and able to handle many aspects of creating the magic of theatre. He was a wonderful example in that the commitment and joy of working behind the scenes is just as rewarding as being on stage. In 1966 Ray received the first Lemmy Award ever presented for backstage work.

Although he died in 2006, Ray's contribution to and love for theatre will not be forgotten. His wife Muriel, a Lethbridge Musical Theatre Life Member, and children Carol and Michael have established a scholarship in Ray Jolliffe's name for theatre arts management and production students attending a Canadian educational institution. Initial contributions to the scholarship endowment came from memorial tributes in Ray's honour.

"We thought this would be a good way to remember dad and his passion for theatre," said Carol Godlonton. "It is a way to support the next generation of people who love theatre like he did."

The Ray Jolliffe MemoriaI Scholarship Endowment is an open fund and donations maybe made to the fund by contacting the Lethbridge Community Foundation.
